Hello Kevin,
Just got a delivery from Oliver Leamy.... thats service,
door to door !!!
Its a wonderful piece of work. Extremely painstaking, &
thanks for the signed copy, not expected but very much
appreciated. I'm trying to place where we met in the past 12
months. Its the ol' age syndrome !!!! Were you at the NAGA
meeting in Kilkenny last September ????
I'm having quiet nightmares about all the proof-reading &
cross-referencing that went into a thorough work like this.
I'm particularly impressed with the efforts to pinpoint the
location code. I was trying to pinpoint about 80 aircraft on
the charts in the Iona book, but yours are very precise &
you have a lot more to identify....... that in itself proves
the extent of detail you wanted to go to.
Its also great to know there are so many 'welcoming'
fields throughout Ireland.
Well done, Kevin. Take a well earned break & return to
the family !!!

Michael Traynor

Kevin,
Just got your VFR
Flight Guide and it is an excellent publication. As a
long time PPL, I enjoy visiting other
airfields/airports-thought I had got to most in Ireland
but your book now means more trips need to be planned!!
I have been taking photos myself for a while now of
airfields as an aid to navigation and had collected
quite a few but your guide takes all the work away!
Well done, I now have the bible!

This book is an excellent resource for any pilot.
Kevin must be highly congratulated and its success is
guaranteed.
I talked to him recently and I think that the second print
run will soon sell out. It is the new benchmark (hear me
Poleys) for any publication.
I too made a very small contribution for Kevin and was
delighted he mentioned me in the list of people who helped,
my contribution was very minor, but this is the measure of
Kevin, a real gentleman and a true aviator.
Well done.

I know this subject has been discussed previously, but
as I’ve only just managed to get my hands on a copy of Kevin
Glynn’s VFR Flight Guide Ireland, I want to do a full review
on it.
The wait was well worth it.
I have been interested in general aviation for over 40 years
now and during that time I have purchased many VFR type
guides, Including Pooley’s UK & Irl, Pooleys Ireland, AOPA
‘s Irish Flight Guide’s and Lockyears UK Farm Strip Guide,
the latest edition which ironically for the first time
contains one Irish airstrip. But I can definitely say
without contradiction that Kevin’s Glynn’s guide to Irish
airfield’s and strip’s is by far the best I have ever come
across. On first handling alone it look’s and feel’s very
professional and that continues throughout the guide from
cover to cover. The strong spiral binding allows 360 degree
folding of the A5 size guide, which cover’s 129 separate
locations in Ireland, North and South.
The inside front cover gives detailed instruction’s on how
to make the best use of it and after the “Introduction”
Kevin includes some very useful information related to
flying in Ireland plus a section on Microlight flying in
Europe. The guide is aimed primarily at the lighter aviation
activity in this country, north and south. But is of great
help to most general aviation users. The next section is a
set of five charts giving the exact location of each site
using a grid reference code system to pinpoint each
location. The same reference system is then included on each
plate of the main section of the guide. These chart’s also
show the distribution of site’s and there relation to each
other throughout Ireland.
Then we come to the main section. Generally, every airstrip
and the NI airports are assigned one full plate, while
airports in the Republic have an additional plate showing a
Visual Approach Chart for that airport. Weston is also given
a second plate showing Airspace, Routes and Circuits. And it
is in the next area that this guide stand’s head and
shoulder’s above the rest. Apart from the usual information
you expect in any guide, there is an oblique aerial
photograph of every location. Each photograph is taken from
the south looking north. Which means if you can approach
from the south it should be easier to spot the site using
the photograph as reference.
Below the photograph, is a map showing the location of the
site plus if there are any other airstrips, airfield or
airports in the vicinity. Other important information is
included on each plate, if fuel is available or nearest
source, some interesting information about the location and
in some case’s if refreshment’s can be had there.
After the main section there is further related information
and some necessary ad’s (to help pay some of the bill’s).
Then we find 13 pages of a fully cross reference system
covering: Airfield code’s, in numerical order, as shown on
the charts at the front and location plate’s. Then an
alphabetical listing of location name’s, then contact name’s
and phone number’s where available for each site and finally
a list of county's showing the name of each site in that
county.
Over the last five year’s I have been attempting to build an
historical database of all aviation site’s in Ireland. So I
can appreciate the time, effort and dedication it took to
bring the whole flight guide together as we see it now.
Every aspect was completed by Kevin personally, including
ALL the photograph’s plus each map was painstakingly
constructed by himself over a period of only two year’s,
while at the same time running a full time business. Again
at the same time he also cleared a field near his home in
order to fly his X’Air EI-KEV. I thought I had a good idea
about the active strip’s in the country, but this guide has
certainly put me in my place by showing me that at least 50%
of the site’s it contains are new to me.
In a volume of this size there may be error's. Kevin has
made provision for this event by including an web address to
report any found at www.learn2fly.ie and he can be contacted
at Kevin@learn2fly.ie if you know of any new strip's which
could be included in the next edition.
I am delighted to have my name linked to such a well
prepared document. I gave Kevin a little help with some
detail’s and he very graciously included my name in the
acknowledgments list.
I would like to congratulate Kevin and wish all the best for
the future of his flight guide.
Hugo.

This is not an advert - but I've just bought a really good
guide that I think others who venture to Ireland (North &
South) might benefit from getting.
I've just received the new VFR Flight Guide Ireland by Kevin
Glynn. 129 airports, airfields, airstrips listed covering by
Northern Ireland and the Republic. There are detailed
national maps showing the geographic location of each site,
plus a detailed index.
Each airfield plate comes with a full colour photo showing
the location and runway layout (particularly useful when
trying to find a grass strip in a country that is
traditionally green!), Lat&Long, distance from nearest
towns, height amsl, radio freq, runway heading, length, type
of runway, contact details, availability of fuel; and
whether visitors are welcome anytime, by PPR or strictly by
invitation only!
Lots of other very useful stuff included too.
Looks like a very useful guide and far more extensive that
Pooleys / Jeppeson etc.
I got mine from
www.pilotshop.ie at 35Euros plus postage. I understand
the print run was only 500 copies

Hi Kevin
Just to say the VFR guide arrived today - absolutely
brilliant. Well done. A lot of hard work I'm sure.
I don't think I'm going to get much work done today as I
leaf through it thinking of where to go.

Hi All,
I'd also like to echo Mike's congratulations to Kevin on the
publication of his guide.
Well done Kevin.
By the way Mike if Con is coming down for the mountain climb
could you give him the hardest way up and steepest way down.
We do live in a disadvantaged area. Even the EU agrees with
that. We should be pushing for a 3:1. We would of course
allow those coming in the same.
Now there will definitely be a rush on for Kevin's book to
check Kerry out.
Can't argue with that fair deal Con !!!

Greetings All.
I'd like to echo Mike's congratulations to Kevin on the
publication of his guide. Well done Kevin.
However I most certainly do NOT accept that those cute hure
Kerrymen should be given any "location disadvantage" credits
in any competitions. Don't get me started !!!
Hope to see you at SAAC on Sunday.

Excellent book. Well done Kevin.
How about the NMAI organise a league table for pilots to fly
into the most no. of fields within this flying season.
Perhaps a prize of a holiday in Florida or some such place
would provide a little encouragement to members.
Mike (Devane)
PS I feel it would be only fair that competitors from Kerry
be given a two for one credit due to our location
disadvantage. !!

All,
I presume you all know that Kevin Glynn released his book
with all the airfields etc. I have a copy and its bloody top
quality. Anyone else seen it, any comments? The NMAI will
have copies for sale at the Mach 1 Airshow if you haven't
already got one, retails at 35 euro, but worth it for anyone
who fly's. I'd like to say well done to Kevin!

Saw the book yesterday at Abbeyshrule & wow.
I'd heard about it coming & expected a version of Fly in
Ireland, but how wrong was I.
This publication is a credit to you Kevin, for its content,
thoroughness (is that a word) and layout.
Printrun of 500 not enough, you'll have to do more.
Put me down for one
Best regards

Congrats Kevin.
Several copies of your guide were distributed at Coonagh
this evening to great acclaim. I am amazed at the number of
airfields featured. What I particularaly like are things
like the colour photos with the runways clearly indicated
and the rules etc for using said airfields.
A very useful tool to supplement AIP etc. However where it
goes further are all the unlicensed fields. I'll be busy
loading up a few of them on the GPS.
Well done!
